About the resort

About Kappl

The popular winter sports resort of Kappl in western Tyrol tempts visitors with the beauty of the Alpine Paznaun valley. The tourist village, whose history goes back to the Middle Ages, sits between the Ferwall (German: Verwall) range to the north and the Samnaun range to the south, at altitudes reaching 2,700 m. The picturesque scenery and well-developed infrastructure, combined with a high standard of service, seem made for an active holiday here, in summer and winter alike. Kappl owes its beautiful landscape and good climate to its favourable location. In winter you can always count on snow here, usually sparkling in the sun. A further asset of the resort is its reasonable prices, lower than in the most heavily advertised tourist regions. The winter season in Kappl runs from December to mid-April. Skiers will find more than 40 km of well-maintained pistes here, topped up with machine-made snow when needed. Red pistes for intermediates predominate (20 km), there are plenty of blue pistes for beginners (15 km), and advanced skiers cannot complain either (5 km of black pistes). There are 9 lifts (a gondola, three chairlifts and five T-bars) and 2 magic carpets for beginners. Instructors from the ski school (with offices at the valley and top stations of the gondola) help with learning. Kappl, like other Alpine resorts, is also a great place for snowboarding and for ski touring and snowshoe hikes (30 km of trails). The offer is rounded off by a 6 km toboggan run (floodlit until midnight on Tuesdays and Thursdays!). The resort has many facilities and attractions for families with children. Sunny Mountain Park, with its winter park full of surprises, provides the ultimate fun in the snow in safe, child-friendly conditions. The modern playground on the slope lets children run wild among cheerful, colourful figures and equipment (a tube carousel, tunnels, toboggan runs and so on). There are also ideal conditions here for young skiers to learn and improve their technique. Special children's lifts, magic carpets, a nursery slope and inviting runs help children pick up the secrets of skiing quickly and easily. The park has a ski school for school-age and pre-school children. Parents can leave their little ones here in the care of qualified staff and watch them from the restaurant windows, or head off to ski the adult pistes in peace. Kappl's wide range of activities makes it possible, on a family trip, to combine time together with each family member's own goals. Adults can also get help in Kappl with learning to ski (and not only to ski). There are ski schools (including carving and freestyle) and a snowboard school. Hiring and servicing equipment is no problem, nor is buying new gear. The village is very well prepared to host both seasoned, demanding fans of active winter holidays and purely leisure-minded visitors. Kappl prides itself on its wide choice of restaurants and accommodation, deliberately making the most of its excellent location and the fact that it is the second-largest village in the Paznaun valley. Guests can choose from hotels, guesthouses and private rooms. During the day you can easily grab a bite between runs at a fast-food bar, or take a longer break in a pizzeria or a more refined restaurant. For a romantic tête-à-tête, one of the local cafés is a good choice. The evening après-ski will satisfy every visitor looking for carefree entertainment after an active day.
