Wengen is part of the Jungfrau Top Ski Region and, together with Grindelwald and Mürren, forms one of the largest and most beautiful ski regions in Switzerland. For alpine skiing fans, Wengen immediately brings to mind the downhill races held in this Swiss village on the Lauberhorn-Rennstrecke. The ski terrain lies in the Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg areas. The "Männlichenbahn GGM" gondola, starting from the Männlichen ski area, links Wengen with Grindelwald. Kleine Scheidegg is a ski area famous above all for the extremely difficult World Cup downhill course, the Lauberhorn-Rennstrecke. Wengen has several ski schools with attractive parks for beginners and children. Wengen is a small village at 1,274 m at the foot of the Männlichen-Gipfel and Tschuggen. Its sunny setting and the absence of cars (traffic is banned) make a holiday here a truly (and literally) clean pleasure. You can reach Wengen by car (which you have to leave in the car park in Lauterbrunnen) or by train. Swiss railways, among the best in the world, offer convenient connections from anywhere in Switzerland. The route to Wengen runs via Interlaken, which is served by ICE, EC and IC trains. Throughout the Jungfrau Top Ski area you can hire ski equipment from the InterSport chain. Skis can be hired, returned and, notably, exchanged at any branch of the chain at no extra cost.
