About Mürren-Schilthorn
The ski terrain around Mürren is part of one of the most attractive winter sports regions in the entire Alps, the Jungfrau Top Ski Region. Two other villages belong to it as well: Wengen, known for its Alpine World Cup races, and the quieter Grindelwald. In total the Jungfrau Top Ski Region has more than 200 km of pistes of varying difficulty. Visitors come here from all over the world for a winter holiday (not necessarily a skiing one), which gives the place a remarkably cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Mürren ski area consists mainly of the pistes on the slopes of the Schilthorn (2,971 m), on whose summit stands the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant, well known to James Bond fans ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service"). The run from the top of this mountain is a real skiing challenge, at least in its upper sections. Less confident skiers would do better to start lower down from Allmendhubel, at 1,912 m, where the slopes become much gentler. In total the ski area right next to Mürren has just over 50 km of pistes, the vast majority of them intermediate. Cross-country skiers coming to Mürren have a dozen or so kilometres of trails. Snow conditions are excellent on the floor of the shady Lauterbrunnen valley. A high-altitude trail is laid out on the Allmendhubel. Unlike the renowned resort of Wengen, Mürren has a quiet, unpretentious atmosphere. The village has kept its traditional architecture and, importantly, has almost entirely eliminated car traffic. The Top Ski Region, to which Mürren belongs, hosts many sporting events every season, often very prestigious ones. These include Alpine World Cup races. All in all, this is an area where even those for whom skiing is not the main point of a winter holiday will not be bored.
