Together with neighbouring Lenk, Adelboden is one of the largest ski areas in the Bernese Alps. No wonder it draws skiers with a sporting streak. The choice is genuinely wide: lifts run up to Fleckli (1,862 m), Engstligenalp (1,964 m), Tschentenegg (1,938 m) and Höchsthorn (1,903 m). For relaxed skiing there is Silleren, reached by a gondola that serves as a kind of gateway to the Adelboden-Lenk ski area. Silleren is a favourite with unhurried skiers. Easy pistes lead from here to Hahnenmoos, which is linked to the Lenk ski area (vertical drop 900 m). From Silleren you can return to Adelboden by an off-piste run. You can also take the gondolas up to Schwandfeldspitz and then change at the mid-station of the Silleren lift. Another option is to ride up to Kuonisbergli and ski down from there to that mid-station. Although Adelboden and neighbouring Lenk look like ordinary Bernese villages at first glance, they turned into high-standard ski resorts long ago. This is especially true of Adelboden, which has a place on the Alpine Ski World Cup calendar for good reason. For cross-country skiers the region offers more than 50 km of trails, mostly of intermediate difficulty. There are trails prepared for skating as well as trails for skiing with your dog. Besides excellent skiing, Adelboden has a wide range of other attractions. You can go ice skating, ice climbing and snowshoeing. Adelboden has the Aqua Vitalis leisure centre with thermal baths, saunas and hydromassage pools. The local mountaineering school offers snowshoe tours in the mountains with a night in an igloo that the participants build themselves.
