About the resort

About Gstaad

Six ski sectors make up the Skiregion Gstaad, on whose pistes literally every skier, regardless of ability and preferences, will find something suitable. It is a very extensive ski area, geographically covering the Saanenland (home to the heart of the region, the fashionable little town of Gstaad), part of the Obersimmental with the much quieter and no less charming villages of St. Stephan and Zweisimmen, and the Pays d’Enhaut valley. Although the ski area around Gstaad is so extensive and has a modern network of cable cars and lifts, it does not form a single linked ski circuit. This drawback is eased by a well-developed network of ski bus and rail connections. The ski areas right next to Gstaad are on the Eggli, Wispile and Wasserngrat. While the pistes on the Eggli and Wispile are "family" terrain that best suits intermediate skiers, the Wasserngrat is a challenge for more ambitious and experienced skiers. Skiers are also drawn to the area by the ski terrain on the nearby Les Diablerets glacier, from which a long 14 km run for expert skiers leads down into the valley. It should be added that the glacier pistes are open more or less all year round. What Gstaad offers cross-country skiers goes far beyond the "standard" of most Alpine resorts. In total there are 120 km of trails, a large part of them in exceptionally picturesque mountain scenery. There are also special trails for skiing with your dog. The trails, of varying difficulty, run both in the valleys and at considerable altitude. Trails are prepared for skating. The number of non-skiing options the Skiregion Gstaad offers its guests is truly impressive. A wide range of sports, a huge choice of entertainment and serious cultural events all await visitors who choose to spend their winter holiday here. Gstaad is one of the most renowned Swiss ski resorts. In winter you can meet front-page names here, the rich and famous. Unfortunately this reputation is reflected in the prices. The town itself, though long a popular and busy tourist resort, has kept its traditional architecture. Thanks to a ban on traffic in the centre, a stroll through the streets of Gstaad is a real pleasure.
