About the resort

About Katschberg

Katschberg is a ski resort at the very heart of the Hohe Tauern, on the border between Carinthia and SalzburgerLand. The ski terrain lies on the slopes of the Aineck (2,220 m) and the Tschaneck (2,030 m). Beginners feel at home in the Gamskogel area on the slopes of the Aineck, while skilled skiers tend to choose the Tschaneck, which also has freeride terrain (around the Kösselbacher Hütte). On the whole, though, red pistes for intermediate skiers predominate. A big advantage of Katschberg is its excellent snow conditions and almost always reliable snow. An attraction designed above all with snowboarders in mind is the snow park with a halfpipe (Aineck). Katschberg is a very popular choice with families for a winter holiday with children. Especially for the youngest skiers there is the "Katschi's Kids World" ski village (with friendly pistes and lifts and a children's ski school, among other things). The cross-country trails in the area total 40 km. These trails, all easy or intermediate, are laid out around Rennweg. The trail leading from Katschberg down to the valley is particularly scenic. Below the ski area, in the valley, lie the villages of St. Margarethen and St. Michael. A better place to stay, however, is the hotel settlement of Katschberghöhe, where the guesthouses are literally at the foot of the slopes. Katschberg offers more than just skiing. There are facilities for many sports, from tobogganing to paragliding.
