Spring skiing in the sun: South Tyrol at its best
South Tyrol proves that spring can be the best part of the ski season. Apple trees blossom in the valleys, café terraces fill with sunshine, and high in the mountains the snow conditions are still excellent. It is a region where you can experience two seasons in a single day: lively winter on the slopes and Italian spring “dolce vita” down in the valleys.

Spring days strike an ideal balance between sport and relaxing in the fresh air. Skiers can enjoy empty pistes as well as gentle sunshine on the south-facing terraces of mountain huts. The contrast between blossoming valleys and snowy peaks makes every day special. Here is an overview of the places offering the best skiing conditions in the first weeks of spring.
Two seasons in one day: the Vinschgau/Val Venosta valley
The Vinschgau / Val Venosta valley is where spring and winter meet almost on the same horizon. Apple orchards blossom in the valleys, the air smells of fresh flowers, and high in the mountains the snow stays in excellent condition, giving ideal skiing conditions.
Thanks to their high altitude, three resorts here guarantee snow into early spring:
- Sulden/Solda. A glacier resort open until 3 May, with wide, perfectly groomed pistes and views of the Ortler massif
- Alpin Arena Senales (Maso Corto). The season runs until 10 May; the glacier slopes let you keep skiing long after the calendar winter is over
- Schöneben/Belpiano. Open until 11 April; ideal for families and beginners, with gentle sunny pistes and quieter slopes
Vinschgau / Val Venosta lets you fully enjoy the rhythm of spring skiing: mornings on the glacier, afternoons on sunny hut terraces, evenings of regional food and relaxation in the valley. The end of the season does not mean a slower pace. Quite the opposite: the region hosts many events, varied enough for every visitor to find something to enjoy. In the first days of spring these include a retro ski race at Watles, a nod to the tradition of alpinism, in which competitors start in historical costume on classic equipment, celebrating the beginnings of winter sports in the Alps.
Meanwhile, Alpin Arena Senales hosts a series of spring events that combine sporting energy with music and Alpine food, creating a unique end-of-season atmosphere. They are aimed at those who want to combine excellent skiing conditions with a good time at more than 2,000 m above sea level.
On 21 March, for example, the atmosphere takes on a festival feel with “Rave on Snow”, a dance party held high in the mountains in the exceptional setting of the glacier.

Dolomite classics in spring
The Dolomites offer not only perfectly groomed pistes but also spectacular UNESCO-listed landscapes. In spring, longer days and strong sunshine let you make the most of both the skiing and the time spent relaxing on panoramic terraces.
At this time of year comfort is easier to come by: shorter lift queues, more space on the slopes and the chance to combine skiing with other activities (spring walks on mountain trails or cycling in the valleys) draw lovers of sport and the Italian way of life. Remember, though, to head for the slopes first thing in the morning and ski until lunch, when the spring snow is at its best. After skiing, the valley is the place to enjoy the sun, for example on an easy walk or a trip to a nearby town for sightseeing or shopping.
In the popular resorts the season runs until:
- Carezza Dolomites: until 6 April; an intimate atmosphere and sunny, family-friendly pistes
- Alta Badia and Val Gardena: until 7 April; sport, local food and views of the beautiful Dolomite peaks
- 3 Zinnen: until 12 April; ideal for families and intermediate skiers
- Latemar Dolomites: until 12 April; quieter slopes for beginners and intermediates
- Kronplatz / Plan de Corones: until 19 April; wide pistes and modern infrastructure
Dolomiti Spring Days: more skiing for the same price
From 15 March to 19 April you can take up the special offer Dolomiti Spring Days, which lets you extend your stay without stretching your budget. Quite the opposite! It is designed for those who want to combine sporty mornings with long, sunny afternoons in Alpine style, and to do so at a promotional price.
The special offer includes:
· 7 nights for the price of 6 + a 6-day ski pass for the price of 5
· 4 nights for the price of 3 + a 4-day ski pass for the price of 3
More sun, more space on the slopes and a calmer atmosphere make a spring trip to the Alps particularly attractive.

South Tyrol in spring is full of sporting and culinary events
Spring in South Tyrol brings not only excellent skiing conditions but also events that combine sport, music and regional flavours. The end-of-season calendar is packed with festivals, food gatherings and spectacular events on the slopes, so every day on skis can end with something special.
- MMM Corones Weeks (30 March to 5 April): skiing combined with mountain culture.
- Wine Skisafari in Alta Badia (22 March): tastings of selected wines in mountain huts.
- Rock the Dolomites in Gröden / Val Gardena (19 to 28 March): concerts on the slopes
- Winter Finals (1 to 6 April): the spectacular “Locknfest”, with skiers crossing a stretch of water.
- Beef and Snow in Latemar Dolomites (13 to 29 March): local Eggentaler beef in traditional mountain huts.
- Early-morning skiing on the Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi (4 March to 1 April): the lifts start at 07:00 and the day begins with an Alpine breakfast.
Spring in the mountains tastes better
South Tyrol shows that the ski season does not end with the first rays of sunshine, and that spring is its sunniest and most cheerful chapter. Mornings bring perfectly frozen snow, midday brings panoramic terraces, and afternoons are made for tastings and walks among blossoming orchards.
It is a region where sport meets the Italian way of life and every day is full of contrasts and memorable moments. So, how about one last trip of the season?
