Czarny Groń is a year-round leisure complex in Rzyki, in the Pracica valley, south of Andrychów. It is surrounded by the forested peaks of the eastern part of the Beskid Mały, and its pistes run down the northern slopes below the ridge around Łamana Skała. It is one of the most distinctive ski spots in this part of the Beskids, combining well-groomed pistes, a large snow park and extensive leisure facilities.
Skiing in the Pracica valley goes back several decades. The first lifts were built here in the 1980s, and the resort was known as Rzyki-Praciaki. Over time the ski area was modernised, gaining new chairlifts, a snowmaking system and infrastructure for snowboarders. Today Czarny Groń belongs to Grupa Pingwina (the Penguin Group) and is part of a larger resort that also includes a hotel, restaurants, a spa area and attractions for families.
Czarny Groń's pistes lie at altitudes of around 595 to 810 m, on the north-facing slopes of the Pracica valley. Thanks to this aspect the snow is less exposed to direct sunshine, which helps to keep skiing conditions good. The resort has snowmaking and floodlighting for evening skiing.
The main run is a blue piste about 1,300 metres long with a vertical drop of 210 metres. Its course is varied, with sections of different gradient. There is also a bypass route that lets you avoid the steeper stretch. This makes the run accessible to a wider range of skiers who have already mastered the basics.
The red piste is about 750 metres long with a vertical drop of 150 metres. It is more demanding and allows dynamic skiing on a well-groomed slope. It is a good choice for skiers who like shorter, intense runs and want to work on their edging technique.
Extra attractions include sections set aside for freestyle and separate teaching areas. The pistes are groomed regularly, and there is also a technical break during the day to regroom the snow before evening skiing.
Skiers are served by two chairlifts, a four-seater in the lower part of the resort and a six-seater in the upper part. This set-up lets you use different parts of the slope and move easily between pistes.
The chairlift in the upper part of the resort has distinctive orange bubbles that protect against wind, rain and snow. The two chairlifts are the resort's main lifts, complemented by short lifts for learning.
The road to the resort runs through the Pracica valley. The resort also runs ski buses that make it easier to get between the car parks, the accommodation and the slopes.
One of Czarny Groń's biggest assets is the Tiger Snowpark, which has long been counted among the best-known and most highly rated snow parks in Poland. It is used by snowboarders and freestyle skiers, from those learning basic tricks to advanced riders.
The snow park is about 600 metres long and offers a variety of features, including boxes, rails and jumps of different sizes. Their layout is adjusted to the snow conditions and the riders' needs. The features range from small training obstacles to big jumps for advanced tricks.
The park is maintained by a team of shapers who keep reshaping the features and preparing the surface. The Tiger Snowpark is floodlit, so it can also be used in the evening. The resort also hosts training sessions, courses and freestyle competitions.
The main park is complemented by a mini Snowpark for those just starting out on features.
Czarny Groń also has a lot to offer families with children and beginners. Next to the ski area there is a separate practice slope about 80 metres long, with a short drag lift. The gentle gradient makes it a good place to practise basic turns and stopping.
The separate Polana Pingwina (Penguin Meadow) is close to the Hotel Czarny Groń. It is a wide, gentle area for learning to ski and snowboard, equipped with a conveyor lift. There is also space for playing in the snow and sledging.
The complex has ski and snowboard schools, including Talarinio and B3Factory. Private and group lessons are available, and you can hire ski or snowboard equipment. There is also an equipment service.
Czarny Groń stands out for its wide choice of food and drink, which makes it easy to plan even a full day on the slopes. By the pistes you will find Knajpa pod Stokiem and Chatka pod Łamaną Skałą, where you can stop for a meal and a rest between runs.
Lower down the valley, next to the hotel, are Restauracja 4 Pory Roku and Oberża, serving regional and international dishes. The choice therefore ranges from quick snacks by the slope to full meals in restaurants.
An integral part of the resort is the four-star Hotel & SPA Czarny Groń in the Pracica valley. It offers rooms, a restaurant and a wellness area with a swimming pool, saunas and treatment rooms. It is a good base for a winter trip that combines skiing with rest and recovery.
Accommodation in the complex also includes apartments, rooms in the Oberża, rooms by the slope and wooden chalets. You can therefore choose between a hotel stay and something more intimate.
Beyond skiing and snowboarding, in winter you can enjoy the complex's other attractions, including an ice rink and recreation areas. A big advantage is that you can spend time in different parts of the resort, even when not everyone in the family skis.
Once the ski season is over, Czarny Groń remains a place for active holidays. The Pracica valley is a good starting point for hikes in the Beskid Mały, including towards Łamana Skała, Potrójna and Leskowiec. The surrounding trails lead through extensive forests, and higher up there are views of the neighbouring ranges.
The resort also has sports and leisure attractions, including a pumptrack, tennis courts and paintball. You can keep active here without setting off on a long mountain hike.
For families with children, a key spot is Magiczna Osada, an outdoor play area with a variety of attractions, including an educational water zone. In summer it also hosts themed activities and events. The complex also has a kids' club and spaces for playing together.
Czarny Groń is also a good choice for those who want to combine mountain walks with time in the hotel spa. The pool, saunas, wellness treatments and restaurants mean the complex can be enjoyed whatever the weather.
Czarny Groń belongs to Grupa Pingwina, which brings together five Polish ski and leisure resorts. Besides the resort in Rzyki, the group includes Kasina Ski & Bike Park in Kasina Wielka, Słotwiny Arena in Krynica-Zdrój, Skolnity in Wisła and Kurza Góra in Kurzętnik.
The group offers a joint Pingwin PASS ski pass, valid at the resorts in the network on the terms set for the chosen product. The cooperation also covers organising sports events and developing the year-round offer.
Czarny Groń combines the skiing tradition of the Pracica valley with modern infrastructure and a wide range of leisure options. Its particular strengths are the north-facing pistes, evening skiing and the Tiger Snowpark, which draws freestyle fans. Plenty of accommodation, good food, the hotel spa and attractions for children also make it a good place for a family stay in the Beskid Mały at any time of year.
