Glungezer in Tyrol: a small resort with a 15 km run (Vlog325)
I went to Glungezer in January, driving up from Innsbruck: 20 minutes by car, 12 km from the centre. At the time I complained on camera about the old double chairlift on the Schartenkogel and said exactly what it should be replaced with. In December 2026 a detachable six-seater chairlift with bubbles and heated seats opens there.
Exactly the kind of lift I describe in this film. Glungezer is one of the 12 resorts covered by the Ski plus City Pass Stubai Innsbruck. One card works on the Stubai Glacier, in Axamer Lizum, in Kühtai, on the Nordkette, on the Patscherkofel, in Hochoetz and at the other resorts around the city.
The price also includes ski buses and 22 attractions in Innsbruck, Swarovski Crystal Worlds and Ambras Castle among them. That changes how you think about this mountain. You don't come here for a week.
You pop up for a day from the city. What Glungezer does have, though, is something no other mountain above Innsbruck can offer: a run all the way down to the village. Up to 15 km from top to bottom, 1,354 m of vertical drop, the upper half red, the lower half blue.
In 1933 the downhill course of the FIS World Championships ran here. There was no lift then, so the racers walked up to the start.
