About the resort

About Roháče-Spálená

The Roháče-Spálená ski centre has pistes totalling 2.2 km. It is a good place both for a family holiday (at the foot of the slopes there are two lifts and a wide practice area for children and beginners) and for more sporty skiing (from 1,460 m, reached by a four-seater chairlift, a long red piste runs down, splitting lower down into a black section and a blue one). Besides the varied difficulty of its pistes, the Roháče resort has another big advantage. Thanks to a particular microclimate and the north-facing slopes, snow lies here from autumn to spring, so the ski season in Roháče lasts longer than in most other Slovak ski resorts. On the minus side, there is no evening skiing, as none of the pistes is floodlit, and there is no snow park. In the area, however, there are several maintained cross-country trails (about 5 km), plus the trails around Zuberec (Biatlonová, 2 km and 5 km). The main town of the area is Zuberec. There you can see an interesting open-air museum of Orava architecture (log cabins, a 17th-century church). It is also worth driving to Orava Castle, which towers over the village of Oravský Podzámok. In Zuberec you can enjoy activities such as snow tubing, an ice rink and paintball. There are also restaurants, wine bars and pubs. A local attraction is the folk festivals held here from time to time. In the area you can also enjoy thermal baths (both indoor and outdoor). These are offered by the recently opened Meander Park in Oravice (12 km). Further away are the thermal pools in Bešeňová (39 km). The Tatralandia aquapark in Liptovský Mikuláš (about 29 km) offers a wide range of water attractions.
