About the resort

About TYLICZ.ski

The Tylicz Ski resort is without doubt not only the largest but also the most interesting ski area in Tylicz. This small town, with a very interesting history and historic buildings, has also been a popular summer resort since the post-war years. The first T-bar in the town went up in the '80s, and ten years later there were already fourteen lifts: at the time Tylicz was one of the larger resorts on the ski map of the Beskid Sądecki. Another ten years on, however, competition from large, modern resorts (Dwie Doliny, Jaworzyna, Słotwiny), where both the choice of pistes and the quality of the infrastructure (chairlifts and gondolas) were at a much higher level, knocked Tylicz off its pedestal and brought significant changes. Only in recent years has the situation started to settle, thanks to newly built ski resorts. Tylicz Ski is one of them. Lifts stood on the site of the present resort as early as the '90s, named after the mountain on whose slopes they lie: Bradowiec (770 m). Later the resort was called TopSki for a while, before finally taking its current name, easy to remember and logical (although the name sometimes suggests that it covers all the ski areas of Tylicz, which is not the case). Its rebuilding and modernisation took several years. Finally, in the 2010/11 season, the first chairlift in Tylicz was built here. It is a used three-seater made by Poma. It is 725 m long with a vertical drop of 145 m. The lift carries 1,800 people an hour. It was placed on the east slope, where a T-bar used to stand. After the rebuild the resort looks quite decent: a chairlift, three T-bars and more than 5 km of pistes, with plans to expand to 14 km of pistes. The resort has two slopes. The north slope, served by two T-bars, with an inn at their foot, is very easy and suited to lessons. There is also a short children's lift, "Żółwik". The east slope, reaching almost to the summit of Bradowiec and served by the chairlift, is much longer and more varied. Most of its pistes are also easy, with only short stretches a little steeper. Here too there is a separate children's lift at the bottom. Both slopes have rental shops, ski services and ski schools. Tylicz Ski is an interesting, uncrowded family resort which, with its floodlit pistes covered by snowmaking, can compete with other resorts in the region, above all for beginners. A big plus is the separation of the very easy training slope from the more ambitious pistes along the chairlift, as well as the good accommodation in nearby Tylicz. The chairlift is fairly slow, but it is not too long, so it balances queuing time, the ride up and the number of skiers on the slope quite well. To sum up, Tylicz Ski is certainly one of the most recommendable new resorts in the Polish mountains.
