Civetta is one of the largest ski resorts in the Veneto region, stretching between Monte Civetta and Monte Pelmo and taking in four villages: Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Palafavera and Zoldo. It is part of the Dolomiti Superski circuit. Above all it is an area to recommend to families with children and to skiers who want to polish their skills, as the Ski Arena Civetta offers mostly wide, treeless pistes. There are ski schools in Alleghe, Selva di Cadore and Zoldo. Although there are plenty of easy and very easy runs in the area, intermediate skiers have the widest choice. There are relatively few black pistes. Zoldo, Alleghe, Palafavera and Selva di Cadore are small, homely Alpine villages. Ski buses run very efficiently between them (free throughout the area for ski pass holders). From Alleghe you can also take the ski bus to the Marmolada (Malga Ciapela station) and the Sella Ronda, and reach the pistes of the World War I area. Almost all the slopes have snowmaking, and most of them lie between 1,500 m and 2,100 m, which guarantees excellent natural snow cover. Cross-country skiers have several loops (mainly around Selva di Cadore and Zoldo) of various lengths and without significant height differences. In Zoldo there is a trail for skiing with your dog. Snowboarders would do better to head for another Alpine area, as the Ski Arena Civetta has no particular attractions for them. There are, however, good conditions for winter walking (about 10 km of cleared paths). Among other winter sports, ice hockey comes first. Italian top-flight hockey matches are often played at the stadium in Alleghe or Zoldo. Besides the chance to watch skating at championship level, you can also skate on the rinks in Alleghe, Selva di Cadore and Zoldo. Other attractions include climbing frozen waterfalls and snow rafting. The après-ski scene is not particularly varied, although each of the main villages has bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
