Gerlitzen. Photo: skionline.pl. Gerlitzen Alpe is the largest of the five resorts in the Villach area, the southernmost ski region of Carinthia, right by the borders with Italy and Slovenia. There is direct access to the Gerlitzen pistes from two villages set picturesquely on the Ossiacher See: Bodensdorf and Annenheim. The Gerlitzen Alpe ski area has 60 km of pistes. A joint ski pass also lets you ski in nearby Verditz/Afritz (15 km of pistes). The Gerlitzen slopes will suit intermediate skiers above all. There are also plenty of easy pistes. Strong skiers, unfortunately, will not have much choice here, as Gerlitzen has no pistes that would challenge advanced skiers. You can always head to the nearby Dreiländereck/Arnoldstein ski area (the difficult Lärchenabfahrt run), Villacher Alpe (the FIS-homologated V73 run on the Dobratsch) or nearby Verditz/Afritz (the Tauernberg-Verditz run). There are plenty of cross-country trails in the area: 50 km in total, plus about 110 km of trails in the other resorts around Villach. Most of the trails are intermediate or easy; only at Villacher Alpe are there a few kilometres of truly difficult trails. Gerlitzen. Photo: skionline.pl. If you come to the area for a winter holiday, you can count on a varied range of non-skiing activities. In the villages on the Ossiacher See and nearby, the sports and après-ski facilities are very well developed. The biggest attraction of the whole Villach region is undoubtedly its thermal baths. When skiing at Gerlitzen Alpe, the baths in Bodensdorf are the most convenient. In the evenings you can of course unwind in local bars and restaurants, but Villach has a far more varied range of entertainment than the villages of Gerlitzen Alpe.
