Dachstein West is without doubt the most attractive ski area covered by the SLS pass. It lies at the western end of the Dachstein massif, though compared with the rest of the Dachstein it is really more of a foothills area. The mountains here reach around 1,500 m. The area is famous for its wonderful views, but that is not the only reason why it is well worth coming here even for a longer holiday. In Dachstein West (Gosau, Russbach, Annaberg) skiers have 29 lifts serving 77 km of pistes, the great majority of them red. The centre of the area is the Zwieselalm summit, with a superb view of the north faces of the Gosaukamm, the Salzburg Dolomites. In the foreground, right overhead, rises the Donnerkogel (2,056 m), and behind it the towers of the Bischofsmutze (2,454 m) shoot into the sky. The ridge culminates in the Hoher Dachstein itself (2,996 m), from which white cascades of glaciers flow down into the valley of the Gosausee lake. A fairytale landscape! Despite the relatively low altitude of most of the pistes, snow is rarely a problem here. With a ski pass for 1.5 days or longer, skiers can use as many as seven ski areas: Dachstein West, Freesports Arena Dachstein Krippenstein, Feuerkogel Ebensee, Loser Altaussee, Karkogel Abtenau, Skilift Lungötz and St. Martin am Tennengebirge.
