Hiking is one of the favourite summer pastimes of the people of Innsbruck. But even in winter people are nowadays increasingly getting their hiking boots on and setting off on walks that take in the snow-covered city, gentle hikes through the wintry landscape, or more challenging tours through the snow: winter walking has so much to offer in the Innsbruck region. So let’s get going!
Now it’s official: international superstar Eros Ramazzotti will end the Ischgl ski season at the legendary “Top of the Mountain Closing Concert”. On 30 April 2023, the Italian pop-rock icon will stand at an altitude of 2,320 metres on the famous Ischgl Stage. A climactic end to a hopefully equally brilliant winter season.
Alta Badia (South Tyrolean Dolomites/Italy): Marco Odermatt had a picture-perfect Monday on the Gran Risa slope today. After his third place in yesterday's first giant slalom on the slopes of Alta Badia, the winner of last year's World Cup and current overall leader triumphed in the second race at the foot of the Dolomites, thus claiming his second win on this historic course after last year's (20 December 2021), as well as the fifteenth of his career (the tenth between the wide gates) and the fourth of the season (three giant slaloms and a super-G).
Finishing in second place in the Super-G on Sunday in St. Moritz rounded off a successful weekend for Elena Curtoni. The Italian athlete has taken the lead in the discipline ranking with her podium finish. Johan Clarey bagged a cool Christmas present in Val Gardena with his second place in the Downhill on Saturday. Joan Verdu from Andorra delivered a surprise performance in Alta Badia with a sensational fastest run time and two top-15 finishes.
The race weekend got off to a perfect start for the HEAD Worldcup Rebels: in Val Gardena (Gröden), Vincent Kriechmayr claimed his first win of the season in Thursday's downhill on the shortened Saslong. Third place went to Matthias Mayer, and six HEAD racers finished in the top 9. In St. Moritz, Elena Curtoni also took her first outright victory of the season in Friday's downhill. Corinne Suter finished third.
St. Cristina, 17 December 2022. First place in the downhill classic secured victory for Aleksander Aamodt Kilde in the special prize DOLOMITES Val Gardena Südtirol Ski Trophy. The trophy honours the racer who collects the most World Cup points during the race week in Val Gardena/Gröden.
Alta Badia (South Tyrolean Dolomites/Italy): Lucas Braathen is the winner of the first of the two giant slaloms in Alta Badia. No one has been able to ski along the Gran Risa slope like the 22-year-old Norwegian of Brazilian origin, who was able to climb from third position in the first run up to the top (2'36"35), to beat his compatriot Henrik Kristoffersen (who triumphed here twelve months ago, on 19 December 2021) by just two hundredths and the incredible Marco Odermatt by ten hundredths. After the first run in ninth position, the World Cup leader recovered to third position, confirming his place on the podium. Odermatt won the second giant slalom last year (20 December 2021) in Alta Badia. Second run to forget for the Slovenian athlete Zan Kranjec, in the lead after the first run and then only fifth. A cold day warmed up by the warmth of the public who returned to cheer on their favourites at the foot of the Gran Risa in La Villa.
