Kronplatz / Plan de Corones: 9 days in South Tyrol (Vlog #056)
Oh, this episode turned out very long :). I do not know if you will last more than 40 minutes in front of the screen with me, but... I could not resist squeezing in more of the gorgeous views from the pistes than usual.
And the resort itself is the largest of those I have visited so far. On top of that I added a competition and a short tour of my "little room" in the hotel. On 11 December 2019 I arrived at Kronplatz / Plan de Corones, the largest ski resort in the Pustertal valley, which awaits us skiers with 119 km of perfectly groomed pistes.
You can get here by car, but also by train, which I talk about in the film. Kronplatz / Plan de Corones (2,275 m) guarantees superb skiing conditions. Its dome-shaped summit is completely treeless, so the pistes are wide and wonderfully sunny, and the slopes have picturesque views of the Zillertal Alps and the Dolomites.
The variety of runs is huge: from flat nursery slopes for novices, through varied red pistes, to genuinely demanding black pistes for real experts. The resort is not only for lovers of wide slopes and long carving turns. Two black pistes above the town of Bruneck make the most of what Kronplatz has to offer, and the Herrnegg piste is homologated for FIS races.
The third black piste, below the summit of Piz de Plaies, is called Erta, which translates as "steep", and that really is the best description of it. I take you to the new Alpinn restaurant, where we eat excellent food with the peaks towering over the Pustertal valley around us. You will also visit the Lumen Museum, the Museum of Mountain Photography, with me, where the past and the future invite you into their rooms.
