This popular ski resort lies within the Low Tatras National Park and marks the boundary between the central and eastern parts of the range. Set at the head of the Bocianska dolina valley, it stretches up to the Čertovica pass, where at 1,233 m the boundary between the northern and southern parts of the Low Tatras runs. A well-known road runs through the valley and over the Čertovica pass, from northern Slovakia across the main ridge of the Low Tatras to central and western Slovakia. The mostly grassy cover of the mountain meadows on the slopes creates good conditions for skiing. The ski runs are near the hotels in Vyšná Boca, in the middle section at the approach to the pass and, above all, at the head of the valley towards the pass, while the longest ones run from Čertova svadba (1,463 m). The pistes here are intermediate or difficult, but some shorter slopes have easy runs suitable for beginners. Nižná Boca and Vyšná Boca are mountain villages where folk architecture has been partly preserved.
