About the resort

About Aldrov

Vítkovice is one of a whole host of smaller resorts in the Krkonoše, but it deserves attention for two reasons. First, it lies off the main tourist routes in beautiful countryside, among hills dominated by Kotel (1,435 m), which makes it an ideal place to relax and a good area to take up skiing. The second reason is a sporting one: one of the local ski areas, Aldrov, was and still is the home resort of Šárka Strachová (Záhrobská), junior world slalom champion in 2005, world slalom champion in Åre in 2007 and Olympic bronze medallist in Vancouver 2010. She trained here as a little girl, preparing for the results that took her to the top of the sport. There are several smaller ski areas here, all covered by a joint ski pass. The most important is Aldrov itself, with a four-seater chairlift alongside which two red pistes and one blue piste run down. Night skiing is also available. On the neighbouring slope is the Vurmovka T-bar, with a red and a blue piste beside it, and some distance away there is a third area, the easiest of all: Janova Hora. In total there are 5 km of downhill pistes served by 6 T-bars and one chairlift. The Vítkovice snow park has a very good reputation. The resort also has a wide choice of well-groomed cross-country trails, more than 30 km in total, which link up with the Krkonoše ridge trail (Krkonošská magistrála) running along the whole range. Accommodation is fairly limited, but the resort has restaurants, snack bars, ski service, rental shops, ski and snowboard schools, and a mountain rescue post with medical facilities.
