Seefeld is a well-known and popular Austrian winter sports resort, picturesquely set between the Karwendel and Wetterstein ranges, not far from the Austrian-German border. The Seefeld area is above all a haven for cross-country skiers. Its alpine skiing terrain best suits intermediate skiers. The Nordic events of the Winter Olympics have been held here twice so far. With the possible exception of the pistes on the Seefelder Joch (2,065 m) and the Härmelekopf (2,050 m) and the off-piste descent through the Reiter Kar glacial cirque, the resort's alpine offer will certainly not impress seasoned skiers who know the slopes of skiing hotspots such as Sölden. Intermediate and less skilled skiers, however, will be delighted with the beautiful, wide slopes. For cross-country skiers, on the other hand, the Seefeld region is a true skiing El Dorado. The trails are numerous and varied. Classic skiers have the rare chance to follow in the tracks of Olympic champions, crossing the region quite literally from end to end. The cross-country trails around Seefeld and Leutasch alone total well over 200 kilometres. Their varied difficulty suits both leisurely touring and competitive skiing. There is also an extensive network of winter walking trails. The range of other winter sports is rich as well, and the après-ski, as in most Austrian resorts, will satisfy everyone. The main villages of the region are Seefeld, Leutasch, Mösern, Reith and Scharnitz. The small town of Seefeld lies at 1,200 m in the Karwendel Alpine Park. The resort attracts guests from all over the world with its many attractions, including the Olympic Centre with a pool, sauna and steam bath, a golf course and a casino. Visitors who like peace and quiet should rather look for accommodation in nearby Leutasch. Mösern is an excellent base for cross-country skiing trips and winter walks. A local curiosity is the huge Peace Bell (2.5 m in diameter), a symbol of friendship between the Alpine countries. Goethe himself admired the beauty of the picturesque mountain village of Reith and its surroundings. It is only 20 km from Innsbruck, so you can also take the opportunity to see the city's superb historic sights.
