Hochkar is a small, quiet ski resort in the Ötscherland region, at the very heart of the Göstlinger Alps. The ski terrain spreads out above Göstling, a small, very picturesquely set village with an intimate atmosphere and accommodation mostly in family-run guesthouses. Although the ski areas here are not extensive (Hochkar just under 16 km of pistes, nearby Ötscher 19 km, Reidl-Pfarrboden 7 km, Turmkogel-Wastel 4 km), the area is an interesting place for a winter holiday thanks to the great variety of its pistes, good snowboarding conditions and an exceptionally wide range of après-ski sports (especially for such a small resort). Families with children like to come here, as do those who like to combine skiing with a quiet break close to nature. Most pistes in the region are easy or moderately difficult. Yet beginners and more experienced skiers alike will feel at home here. Ambitious runs for sporty skiers have been laid out on the steep slopes of Hochkar and Ötscher. Great terrain for learning and honing your skills, on the other hand, can be found on the sunny, flat slopes right next to Göstling. On the slopes of Annaberg and Lackenhof there are pistes for snowboarders (boardercross courses). The Göstling area has nearly 30 km of cross-country trails. The trails vary in difficulty. Around the other villages of the Ötscherland region there are about 50 km of trails in total. The non-skiing sports offer here is really rich. Göstling and the other villages offer a choice of après-ski sports that no ski resort from the so-called "premier league" would be ashamed of. The restaurants with regional cuisine are well worth a visit. In the evenings, life centres on the local taverns and bars, and those after livelier fun can visit one of the several discos.
