About the resort

About Hinterstoder

Hinterstoder is a ski village in Upper Austria at the foot of the Totes Gebirge range. Its largest ski area is on the slopes of the Hutterer Höss (1,858 m). Nearby you can also ski on the slopes of the Bärenalm (7 km of pistes, a World Cup venue) and in the Wurzeralm-Frauenkar area (18 km of pistes, beautiful slopes higher up, long valley runs). The Hutterer Höss ski area has 25 km of pistes, most of them suitable for intermediate skiers. There are also pistes that are perfect for beginners and families with children. Advanced skiers have 2 km of difficult pistes, including the Hösskogel run, which demands real skill. Cross-country skiers have 25 km of trails, mostly easy. On top of that there is the network of trails around the other villages in the region: Spital am Pyhrn, Windischgarsten and Vorderstoder (about 120 km of trails in total). Besides its varied network of downhill and cross-country runs, the Hinterstoder area has another major asset. Prices here are low, because the area, attractive as it is, still lives in the shadow of other, better-known resorts. The after-ski sports options do not go beyond what most Austrian resorts offer. They include night tobogganing, torchlight ski descents, an indoor tennis court and a curling rink. There are many places worth seeing in the area. They certainly include the "Alpineum" regional history museum in Hinterstoder and the village of Spital am Pyhrn with its beautiful Baroque collegiate church and residential buildings.
