Late summer in Zermatt

Zermatt needs no introduction: a true icon not only of Switzerland but of the Alps as a whole. The classic outing here is the walk from Gornergrat (you can ride up on the cog railway or simply climb one of the many trails nearby), which offers one of the Alps' postcard views. On one side the superb pyramid of the Matterhorn shoots into the sky; on the other, right in front of you, rises the mighty Monte Rosa massif, with Switzerland's highest peak, the Dufourspitze at 4,634 m, and numerous glaciers flowing down towards you.
