Professional athletes and ambitious amateurs alike will find plenty of roadbike and mountain bike events in Tirol showcasing the beautiful landscape and challenging terrain of this region. Summer 2022 will once again see a wide range of races and mass-participation events take place in Tirol. Highlights include the spectacular Tour of the Alps bringing some of the world’s best pro riders to Austria as well as perennial favourites and a few new formats. Here are the most important bike events in Tirol at a glance.
Tour of the Alps - 18 until 22 April 2022
Five stages, 719 kilometres and 13,750 vertical metres of climbing - this year’s Tour of the Alps certainly lives up to the punishing reputation the race has built up over the past five years. This year once again it will draw 150 of the world’s best professional riders to race on the roads of the Tirol-South Tirol-Trentino Euroregion from 18 until 22 April 2022. The peloton will include ten top-level UCI World Tour teams including INEOS Genadiers with Richie Porte, Team Astana Quazaqstan with Vincenzo Nibali and Miguel Angel Lopez, and BORAhansgrohe with Wilco Kelderman. In 2022 the Tour of the Alps will for the first time be part of the UCI ProSeries.

Stage one begins in Cles in Trentino and leads via Primiero/S. Martino di Castrozza, Lana and Niederdorf to the Austrian border, where riders cross into East Tirol for the final two stages - one ending in Kals am Großglockner and one ending in the region’s main town, Lienz. Riders and spectators alike can look forward to more of the wonderful scenery and top-level riding that have made the Tour of the Alps so popular in recent years.
