The Diamond of the Alps shines particularly brightly among Austria's top ski resorts. The combination of premium ski area, upscale hotels and gastronomy as well as top-class events makes it a true insider’s tip for discerning connoisseurs. At altitudes between 1800 and 3080 meters with absolute snow guarantee, 112 perfectly groomed kilometers of pistes and 25 lifts can be explored - without any waiting times but with picture-perfect panoramas at every turn. On 16 November 2023, Gurgl will kick-off the winter season as one of the first winter ski areas in the Alps. For the very first time, the 2023 season will be launched with a sporting mega-event, the AUDI FIS Alpine Ski World Cup on 18 November.
All skill levels feel at home on the sunny ski slopes above the timberline. Six feeder mountain lifts in Obergurgl and Hochgurgl take skiers quickly and effortlessly up to the ski area. With a noticeable effect on comfort and freedom for all winter sports enthusiasts. However, there is no break when queuing at the lift, but rather in the most pleasant places to stop for refreshments within the ski area. Scenic Hohe Mut Alm (2670 m) and "Top Mountain Star" 360° panorama bar on Wurmkogel (3080 m) are hard to beat in terms of culinary delights and views. The multifunctional Top Mountain Crosspoint at the foot of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Pass Road comprises several options under one roof. The strikingly curved building houses, for example, the modern Kirchenkar gondola lift, a table service restaurant and Europe's highest motorcycle museum.
AUDI FIS Ski World Cup It has been official since May 2023: the AUDI FIS Alpine Ski World Cup will stop in Gurgl on 18 November and open the winter at the "Diamond of the Alps" with a top-class sporting event. Deluxe panorama In Gurgl, several vantage points invite you to let your gaze wander over Ötztal’s mountain giants. For example, when taking a break at Top Mountain Star - a viewing platform with panorama bar. The all-round glass structure at 3080 m above sea level on Wurmkogel summit opens up a distant view as far as the Dolomites on clear days. Guests at Hohe Mut Alm can also relax in the first row with superb views of Gurgl’s Glacier - particularly comfortably on the deck chair terrace. In view of this dreamlike scenery, it is not surprising that Hohe Mut Alm restaurant ranks among the most popular wedding locations for holidaymakers. What else is there to say other than "yes"?
Top infrastructure and entertainment The destination is also characterized by its usual high standards in the valley. The winter sports resort at 2000 meters has over 25 hotels in the 4 and 5-star category. Almost all ski slopes lead directly to the accommodation and spoil guests with ski-in & ski-out in a class of its own. Exquisite gourmet restaurants, shopping opportunities and stylish lounge clubbing cater to the good taste of Gurgl guests. Those who like it very exclusive, take a seat in the Perrier-Jouët gourmet gondola. During the ride on Kirchenkar gondola, fine drinks and specialties prepared at the Top Mountain Crosspoint Restaurant are served to accompany the superb views.
High horsepower vehicles It is thanks to Alban and Attila Scheiber's passion for collecting that Hochgurgl is home to Europe's highest motorcycle museum. On an exhibition area of about 4500 m², the museum offers over 450 exhibits as walk-in motor history, major brands of car racing and an interactive experience world with 4D cinema, motor wall, technology simulations and lots of engine sound.
From the First Line to night tobogganing Active people can take advantage of the varied program in Gurgl. Early risers enjoy the ski area almost alone for a while at the weekly “First Line” event. Accompanied by a guide, they make the first turns of the day on freshly groomed slopes. Afterwards, a first-class breakfast awaits them at scenic Hohe Mut Alm - including a glass of sparkling Prosecco. 12 km of cleared winter hiking trails, snowshoe tours, ski tours, 12 km of high-altitude cross-country ski tracks and the ice skating rink in Obergurgl offer exercise of a different kind. Always a pleasure: the 3 km long (night) toboggan run in Hochgurgl, the evening rendezvous at ice stock sport or the ski show with night skiing twice a week.
Top-class congresses and events In addition to sports, Gurgl traditionally also inspires scientific and social flights of fancy. Gurgl Carat, a congress and event center of international dimension, makes the ideal location at the heart of Obergurgl. Architecturally modeled on a diamond, Gurgl Carat offers state-of-the-art technology and a flexible room concept for up to 520 people as well as countless event variants - ranging from congresses, conferences and workshops to concerts, balls and regional events. Conference guests also enjoy a fine side program amidst the impressive high alpine nature.
