Helly Hansen Updates Best-Selling Base Layer for Even More Protection
Base layers are the essential foundation for staying dry and warm in all winter weather conditions and activities, and Helly Hansen continues to innovate the most effective, thoughtful base layer solutions for professionals and outdoor enthusiasts alike. For Fall/Winter 2020, Helly Hansen is introducing the Lifa Merino Midweight Hoodie, a pinnacle piece designed to ensure warmth and excellent moisture management whether you’re sitting on the chairlift or racing down the slopes.
As Helly Hansen’s best-selling base layer, the Lifa Merino Midweight has garnered both accolades and feedback from the countless consumers and professionals that rely on their base layers day in and day out. With that feedback, Helly Hansen has updated the 225G/m2 Lifa Merino Midweight with a pullover construction, including a hoodie that eliminates all cold spots for those extra chilly days on the mountains. The front neckline of the new hoodie rises higher around the face to provide coverage for the chin and neck, eliminating the need for a bulky balaclava. When the hoodie is not in use, both the hood and neck lay flat.

"We wanted to focus the category on what our consumers demand from us, which is a base layer that keeps you warm on the windy days sitting on the chairlift, while being equally effective for anyone going touring in the backcountry," said Philip Tavell, Category Managing Director for Base Layer at Helly Hansen. "The Lifa Merino Midweight Hoodie offers even more protection on those blustery days while delivering excellent moisture management for any level of activity on the slopes."

The Lifa Merino Midweight Hoodie uses Helly Hansen’s signature LIFA® Merino stay warm technology with a 2-layer construction: 100% Merino wool on the outside and 100% LIFA® on the inside. LIFA® fabric is based on a yarn technology that moves moisture away from the skin and transports it to the surface of the fabric where it evaporates, leaving the wearer warm, dry and comfortable. The 2-layer combination offers 56% better moisture management on average compared to 100% wool fabric, while the soft and durable Merino wool provides phenomenal warmth with the added benefit of natural antimicrobial odor control.

The updated LIFA® Merino collection also reaffirms Helly Hansen’s commitment to the environment through conscious dyeing solutions and fully traceable sourcing of Merino wool from sheep. Each LIFA® Merino base layer piece is solution-dyed, which eliminates harmful wastewater, and all Merino wool used in Helly Hansen’s base layers is sourced from ZQ Merino, a global leader in providing sustainable, ethical and traceable wool.

The new LIFA® Merino collection also includes a 160G/m2 Lightweight base layer, allowing consumers more choice to suit their individual needs. The Lifa Merino Midweight Hoodie is available in men’s and women’s specific styles, and a matching Lifa Merino Midweight Pant is also available to complete the base layer kit.
